IMJ: Ah, yeah. Like when I met Bret Hart in October 1998 the week before Vince Russo took over WCW creative, and he assured me that Bret vs. Hogan for the strap was the plan to main event Starrcade that year. Six days later, Russo sent Hogan home (not to return until February), and booked Bret vs. Goldberg for Starrcade instead, which aside from being pretty crummy was also the match where Goldberg kicked Bret straight to Concussion City and ended his career. What a bummer.
Different scenario, obviously, but it's the closest anecdote that I have to compare to yours. And yeah, every bit as frustrating. I feel you, dawg.
