In this country though, it also really very much depends on the school and school district. (Maybe state and town in some cases.) Some are crappy, others can be pretty decent.

I've run the gambit from my cruddy middle school in my not-so-well-handled area school district, to a pretty great high school in a small, separate school district (but my HS still nearby) I was able to jump ship and go to thanks to the start of a choice program.

My default district was pretty large and was not so good at handling their money... I think they've improved over the years, but back then, eesh. There's worse, but that middle school was the last straw. No way in hell was I sticking around for the high school I'd have been destined to go to had I not gotten the heck out.
