Spin off ideas for the 2012 series

The 2012 series is over and done with and new imagining of the series is around the corner.

But the 2012 series did have some concepts that would have been better if they were explored more. Maybe not as part of the series proper, but more as spin off stories that followed the series.

We can all more or less agree the series as we knew is ends at the conclusion of season 4. The Kavaxas arc serves as a mildly entertaining epilogue and also as an opertunity for the Turtles to say a proper good-bye to Splinter. While Lone Rat and Cubs is a sweet bit of back story within the Turtles lives.

A spin off story using Lone Rat and Cubs could be called “Ninja Turtles-Hamato Family Journal” the story would take place sometime after season 4 (There will be some hints the Kavaxas arc has taken place, but season 5 in entirety could just be seen as non-canon as well). The Turtles had up until that point just had Splinter’s room closed off because none of them really had the heart to clean it out.

But now they have had the chance to really say their good byes to Splinter and know in their hearts that he is at peace and reunited with Tang Shen, the Turtles, April, Casey, and Karai are all clearing out Splinter’s belongings as a means of letting him go. One of them...lets say Casey comes across a box that has several leather bound books. He flips through one of them but doesn’t find it interesting that and it’s written in hiragana so he couldn’t read it even if he wanted to. So he sets the boxes aside. April however picks up the one of these books and recognizes them to be written in Splinter’s hand writing. She points this out, the Turtles don’t recall ever seeing these books in Splinter’s possession.

Donnie reads through the first of one of the books before he suddenly gasps and points out the passage to Leo.

Leo informs everything that these books are actually a journal that Splinter had written about their lives. Mikey immediately suggests that Karai could read them and learn about the Splinter they knew.

Raph awkwardly comments that he’s sure Karai has better things to do then read about their childhoods. Karai picks up on this and asks if he’s afraid she’ll end reading something embarrassing. Casey laughs and jokingly suggests potty training as an example.

April however suggests they do more then that. She then proposes that the journals be translated English and the Turtles could also add in their own past memories as well as more current adventures and create a journal about their existence.

Leo is somewhat unsure and even points out a gallows humor statement. (Something along the lines of ‘they were born in a void and when they eventually pass on it would leave little impact’ ) April however says that their existence doesn’t matter to the rest of the world, they still are important in the scheme of things such as defeating the Kraang, saving the world from forces that could destroy it, defeating the Shredder. So even if Casey, Karai, and herself are the only humans who would ever know them. There still should be something to prove they existed.
