I also believe that a writer can turn a character turn around if she/he has the skills to do so. Posters in other threads have come with ideas that marginally better as Venus's backstory and whole character then what was written in the show. However, there is matter of sticking the landing when said character is interacting with the main character. That part is what really separate good writers from the bad and sometimes you need create rules for yourself to force you to think outside the box and some general guidelines or checkmark to see if this character can work well with the others which can sometimes feels like a balancing act.

Like for example: Does this character makes things too easy for the main characters? Yes. Ok now you have go back give her some rules to keep her in check.

Sometimes to okay break rules, but in my opinion, it's best to make loopholes rather then straight up contractions.
