Indeed, he loves his sons deep down, even if he has difficulty expressing it to them directly.
"Lou-Jitsu cares for you in many ways".
That was a touching quote from him in the Evil League of Mutants episode.
Though I thought the turtles were a bit too harsh on him after that scene, at least they all made up together in the end (and it's hilarious how the turtles didn't even put two and two together about Splinter being Lou Jitsu
