- Redemptive storyarc for Baxter Stockman
- Time travel
- More use of darkness and shadows in the visual design
- Urban setting that is gritty in a naturalistic way (especially like the first season of 2k3)
- Larger universe with the Triceratons and Federation (IDW does this well)
- Mirage adapations, but from later in the storyline (maybe Tales V2 or Volume 4 of the original series)
