The greatest single live rock & roll performance of all time. This sh*t was life-changing at Age 7 and I still get the same chills to this day.
I mean, the record is an undeniable classic. Game-changing. But for my money this is THE ultimate performance of that material. That backing band! Those guest stars! EVERY f*cking thing about it, A to the Z.
These guys were in their 40s by 1989, had played this material countless times, and yet somehow managed to make the entire thing seem fresh, AND they made it all look so EASY. Daltrey's lyrics are arguably at their best, and you've never seen a frontman smash SO many tambourines in one shot. Watch Townsend get more power than you ever thought possible out of a goddamn acoustic guitar as he glides across the f*cking stage like it's covered in ice. And watch Entwhistle (OX!) pluck those bass strings at 100mph and looking almost f*cking bored with it the entire time, like he could do it all in his sleep (he probably could have). Over two decades in, and they arguably never sounded better.
Not to mention that backing band. The strings! The HORNS! That f*cking bass drum.
I gotta go watch this on the big TV, see you assholes later.
I hooked a buddy up with this because they never heard of it and now my afternoon is gonna be Just This.
