Sometimes the healthier option is just to opt out if the fans of a franchise is so hostile and full of vitriol that they start giving you death treats for "playing with your toys wrong". I don't know if that happened to Sneefee, but I've seen it happen with other TMNT fan-artists where they quit their username and stopped drawing Turtles completely.
It's not just Turtles, just recently there's been Steven Universe fan-artists that's gotten death threats for drawing characters differently and one artist got so much online harassment from a Dream Daddy fan piece the game developers had to intervene...
