Doesn't matter, Ninjas going around NYC is less plausible the more technology there is and when anyone can take out their phones and record anything.
It can be made to work but it's definitely more difficult and requires a different level of suspension of disbelief. Sure it would still have been impossible in the 80s/90s but it's easier to take in.
It's also why a show like X-Files can't work as well today as it did when it began or why Batman works better if we believe there isn't that much tecnology, BTAS while retconned into "modern" times had a sort of "timeless" feel because of the cars and clothing and whatnot that it felt it took place many decades before the 90s.
TMNT in the 80s vs modern times is not something I'll lose any sleep over, I'm just saying it's not because of "nostalgia", it's just a bit easier to get into.
