Maybe they don't have the budget to do a full-fledged Star Trek show for regular television anymore? I mean I'm no expert but I would assume Star Trek shows are very costly to produce.

You have to build the sets, the make-up for the aliens, the CG for the ships, the salary of all the actors, the directors, writers, music composers, etc.

Wasn't one of the reasons Enterprise was canceled was because they couldn't afford to keep it going?
