Does anybody remember Usagi's appearances in the original toon? I don't, and my first reaction is to be skeptical of claims that it worked, given what the old toon was and what Usagi is; sure, Usagi can work in fundamentally comedic stories, but it's a different type of comedy. It's also worth noting that the two Sakai Usagi/TMNT crossovers that are comedic in tone are also short gag strips of the sort that don't lend themselves to twenty-two minute episodes.

I was just watching those episodes last night on my DVD player, and the more I thought about it the more I realized just why Usagi was only in two episodes. Stan probably didn't approve of his character's depiction by Fred Wolf Films, so he must've forbid them to ever use Usagi again.
