Hey everyone.

My dad has just persuaded my Mam and I to go to a Jehovah's Witness meeting, in order to support him as he does his first half hour talk.

Now, without turning this into a big religious debate or anything, but me and my Mam don't want to go to it at all. We have no interest in going to it, and we want to get out of going.

Any advice on avoiding going?

What, do you live in a sitcom? Tell him you don't wanna go.

I have, that's the problem. My dad doesn't take no for an answer.

Trust me, if it was as simple as that, I wouldn't post it, would I?

Thanks for the support

I have my follow-up appointment on Monday, so at least I won't have too long to torture myself! I'm trying to just embrace the whole whatever will be, will be thought process.

I've had the the "Big C" conversation once, I can face another if I have to.

All the kind words make a difference, everyone!

Oh, that sucks, Headbands... I wish I could come up with a decent suggestion for you to avoid it, other than pretending that you're sick or you have to go to work.

Yeah, isn't drinking a glass of orange juice and milk mixed together meant to make you puke? I've heard it said, but have never been desperate enough to try it!

Don't know what to tell you, Headbands. If he won't take no for an answer, then maybe you should just go and be done with it or fake like you're sick.

Sassy, best wishes on your check up. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I think he did have to go to it. He posted about it in the What Grinds Your Gears? thread.

Congrats on your new baby, RTD.

Weird thing happened to me last night as I got off work and logged on Facebook. I have messages from my mother. She is asking me my blood type and how tall I am. Okay, kind of odd questions, but I keep scrolling. This is where the kicker comes in. She proceeds ask me have I ever thought that the guy who I've thought was my dad, the guy she went out of her way to find when I was 10 years old, isn't actualy my dad. She tells me to look this one guy up and that he is PROBABLY my real father.

My reaction to her: A. I was at work, so you blew up my facebook for nothing. B. I don't give a s**t. Honestly, I don't. I don't give a f**k about her, him, or whoever else it might actually be. What's dumb to me is, and she said she knew all this time, she just didn't ever take the time to tell me, is that the man who I thought was my father, is a huge peice of s**t. Coke head, alcoholic. She put herself through hell for him. At the expense of me. My mother is f***ing retarted. I spent 10 years not actually knowing who my father was, now I'm back to that. God, she's stupid.

Sorry you had to deal with that, RTD. She definitely isn't making things easy for you.

My sis is at it again. This time she called and said she's getting the sterotactic radio surgery for her tumor, which is fine. But then she told her neurologist that she doesn't have anything personal against her parents or the doctor who gave her the steroids that caused her to have this tumor because they saved her life. That's a load of B.S. because just a few weeks ago, she called saying she was going to sue the doctor and blamed my parents for putting her in a coma and for causing the lesions in her brain when my dad threw an envelope at her. He didn't even hit her in the head, and even if he had, that wouldn't cause any trauma. I didn't say anything when she said that on Saturday, but I really had an urge to call her out. She is SUCH a manipulative b*tch.

The TMNT Movie section is a mine field of 'opinions'.

Seems to me people have forgotten what ^that^ word means.

Yeah, I tend to stay away from that place, but I do browse it occasionally. Man, it's going to be a bigger minefield once the film's released though. I'll give my honest review once I see it and will probably be blasted for it, but I don't care.

Wow...it has been a rough 2014 on my end. This story might break out some Kleenex.

In January, my step-grandmother (step-mother's mom) passed away. She died in her sleep just a few days before my birthday and about the same time when my niece was born.

Back on July 4th, when I was having fun with a couple of my friends, I received the call that I would always dread. My dad called me to let me know that my step-mom/M.O.M (My Other Mom) was dying. By hearing those words, I literally dropped down to my knees and cried in the middle of downtown Portland. I was very close to her even before she married my dad. Luckily, I had my two friends comfort me. What did her in was a stroke.

As I cried there in the middle of the sidewalk, I came to realization that my step-mom won her independence from ovarian cancer that she has been battling for the past 3 years. I was glad that I went down to Florida for my step-brother's wedding. It was the last time that I saw her alive and it was how I wanted to remember her...her contagious smile, generosity, and laugh.

Right now, I am just hoping that this year gets better on my end.

So sorry to hear that, Cascadia. I also hope that the rest of this year will be better for you.
