Good episodes, I didn't expect that Splinter and Big Mama were together.

Splinter's speech to Donnie is one of my favorite moments in this series so far.

Splinter and Big Mama... interesting. Maybe not surprising, if he was, as a human, already performing for yokai/mutants. In that case, I guess he would undoubtedly have known her if he'd been hired to perform (or captured and made to), if it's part of her whole sport/entertainment business thingy.
I wish I could feel more interested in finding out where that goes, but knowing this show's history of dropping plots/arcs for many eps/months before returning to it... Yeah, still don't care for this Splinter. Glad he had a bit of a realization and improved, but not crazy about how crappy he was as a parent, yet again, to start with. Pretty sure we've already been down this road once and hoped it would have stuck. I did like the tiger comment though. lol And at least for once we FINALLY actually see Splinter trying to train the Turtles...sorta. |

Am I the only one with the feeling that Big Mama could be Rise's version of Tang Shen? ... Nah.

Rise already has a version of Tang Shen. She was one of Lou's co-stars.

Yeah, agree the co-star may be a bit more likely, but Big Mama would be...and interesting take on it.

Likely? I'm not sure I follow.

Actually, come to think of it. Even if Big Mama was Tang Shen, the Turtles would've recognized her human form from the Lou Jitsu films.

Going by first impressions this Splinter definitely had the worst and do mean the worst. I didn't care much for 2k12 but it did have one of the best Splinter incarnations so going from that to this would really sour anybody, but as the episodes went on I really enjoy this very unorthodox take on Splinter. I said it before but he is pretty much a mix between Peter B.Parker and Johnny Cage and prideful has been who forgot to be a great ninja and tries to do right with his sons but unfortunately is a very flawed individual. These two episodes very showcases the fact what with The Ballad of a Rat Man has him wanting to reclaim his former glory and the latter wanting to teach his sons stealth.
What I enjoy about these episodes is that when usually Splinter has to learn a lesson its when the situation is serious or dire but here its kinda nice to have the tone more casual and comedic and its just nice to see him learning the error of his ways in a more mundane and relatable topic. I don't know something about the conversation between Donatello and Splinter was really heartwarming and seeing how Splinter recognized how bad he missed up was pretty nice too. If there is one thing you can say about the relationship between Splinter and the Turtles is that its definitely father-son(even if the father is far far far from perfect)
