It's just a smart plot device showing how time is passing. Instead of the much less fun "5 months later", they visually show time moving. Comics are a visual medium after all.

well that makes sense... kind of a let down i must say... i was reading the letters in the back of one of the issues and someone asked who this was...Laird's response was that he didn''t want to give it away but by the end of the series we would understand.... I guess I just hoping for more.

To clarify a bit more on what PAAATE said, the old man was symbolic of the world-at-large still going on normally, just as mundane and routine as always, in spite of the chaos.

I just won the 1989 Tales of the TMNT trade paperback, in VF condition, on eBay for $27. Is this a good deal? I thought so. Also, does this book include all the original issue covers? I hope it does. The book also includes an unreleased 10-page bonus story.

Is there a legit background for Casey Jones? Other then the "Bad TV rotting his brain" schtick?

There's some background in Tales 56.

One of several issues I don't have. Thanks for the info! I'll have to nab a copy next time I go on an ebay spree.

You're welcome. If it helps, it's similar (albeit darker) history like he had in the 2k3 cartoon. Tristan Jones wrote it. I believe there's a few posts he made in one of the recent CJ threads too.

Also, Tales 37 has a Casey Jones 'origin' story.

However,
Spoiler:
by the end of it, we don't know if any of it was true or not.

Hey I am curious will they ever reprint the original issues again?

I found out each book was originally 30$ but now they have been 100$ sense they discontinued them.
This really just pisses me off!

Such is the world of many comics. The more time after print that you're looking for them, the more difficult they are to find.

In my unprofessional opinion, it's possible they may reprint Volume 1 in TPB somewhere down the line but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath.

Assuming it is in fact the Vol 1 TPBs you're looking for, of which there are seven, Mile High Comics has four of them in stock right now, each under $30.

I am talking about the original comics by Eastman and Laird. That started it all.

Well are you talking about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Vol 1 individual comics, or the collected books? Because the individual comics were definitely not $30 cover price. And actually, the books weren't anywhere near $30 either. They were all around or under $10 cover price.
