lose 25 pounds

learn more practical skills for my career (more video editing, more video techniques, script writing)

get one more internship under my belt

write more

launch my blog that I have been thinking about doing since summer of 2018

volunteer more

maybe start looking for work in my field (can't just have mostly retail on the resume)

I'm not necessarily looking for some one right now but I wouldn't mind getting in a relationship again. I haven't been in a relationship for over three years expect for going on a few dates.

Get a job! Even if it takes a Worker's Permit to go to Canada...because PrincessUtrom and I have been looking at a lot of places in Montreal that do graphic design...

Exactly this! My goal is to (finally) finish LIS, not to mention a few of the other tales I have been knocking around.

I've been doing karate on a bad knee for the last six months. I would like to end this year doing karate on two good knees. It's angry tonight, so not the start I was hoping for.

My knee was messed up for about 6 months, too. No idea what I did to it... maybe smacked it hard when I was drunk or something. Real bad. Going up and down stairs was excruciating but I could still sort of run if I kept it mostly straight with a knee brace on. Was getting worried there (like, sh**t, do I need knee replacement surgery at 37? is this it?). Now it's all better.

Yeah, I don't even know what I did to my knee, other than probably just too much karate. The problem manifested about two weeks before my black belt test, adding an additional stress factor to that that I didn't need. After being manageable for a while, it ended up getting progressively worse to the point where it did become painful to walk. Since then, about two months ago, I've been doing physical therapy, which has been helping. Still not quite all the way there, though.

My dad has had multiple knee surgeries. Mostly because of his job and also because he's old.

My goal is to not be admitted to the emergency room once in 2019 no matter what. And yes I have health insurance but this is still my goal. It happened to me 3 times in 2017 and 2018 because of high stress at work due to unfair / excessive confusing conditions. I plan to take a stand as soon as possible. 2 weeks ago, I tripped and fell on a hard floor because I was rushing, and no there was no wet floor sign. I was lucky I wasn’t injured and I came close to hurting my ankle from slipping.

Draw more and get better at photography. I hope to do more commission work, get my Patreon back in shape and have a better structure there.

And start exercising a bit beyond walking the dog.

And get that Final Fantasy Marathon going, me and a friend have been talking about it for the longest time, and we need Metal Gear Weekend part deux as we've missed MGS4 when we had the first one and now we have MGS5 to play together.

I just finished V. Then I beat Metal Gear in 4 hours and jumped to MG2:SS. Quite a shift from the 150+ I spent on V. . Really fascinating to see the contrast and the evolution, though, between the first game and the final. Especially in story order. As I suspected, my "reading" of the events of the first two games has completely changed upon playing Snake Eater, Peace Walker, and the entirety of Part V. Which is nice.

I can imagine, now that we know Big Boss' motive beyond being a "surprise b*tch, I was evil" villain of the first games. I should probably do that too after finishing V and play through MG1 and MG2

We're also missing Peace Walker and Portable Ops since a PSP screen is a hassle when you're two.

He saved all the Outer Heaven refugees and war orphans when NATO ordered the bombing strike at the end of the first game. As many as he could, anyway. Even back then the series was subverting expectations and hinting that the story was more complicated.

When you beat Black Ninja/Schneider and he tells Snake, "You'll see... What a wonderful man... HE truly is...", it's now spectacularly funny and ironic because it's absolutely true. I feel bad for Solid Snake being eternally the Patriots' pawn until the series end, but seeing the entire story re-framed as being about Big Boss adds gigantic layers of depth to ALL of it.

Too bad it's over, but it was a great ride.

...V could'a used more Boss fights.

I'd rather not base my plans around years. It's a long timeline where a lot of stuff can happen and change. Something that's feasible to do in February might not be so in August anymore, for example. And no one can predict the future.

I do have "plans" more or less, but not something I necessarily want to achieve as part of 2019. For one thing, I'm not just referring to short-term things like, I dunno, attending a concert or other sort of event that has a fixed date and only happens on that day at a certain time and that's it. Things like self-improvement are a marathon, not a sprint, and I can't just chalk them up to being a thing exclusive to the year of 2019. It's not something that has a defined beginning and end to it. You're always improving and learning new things.

However, there's a few small things that I'll try to do more this year, including going back to watching anime, playing games more regularly and perhaps reading books again. Haven't read a novel in about 4 years now. Crazy.

If you make a list of things you accomplished this year instead of the things you hope to accomplish last year you can see how much you did/didn't do and it puts actual pressure if you didn't do all you wanted since you realize you wasted the year not accomplishing that goal. I feel that's a better motivator than "This year I will do _____". January is almost done so I suggest people try the "Crap, last year I didn't _____ like I wanted" and you can see just how much more you accomplish and look back at the year when it ends knowing you did a lot.
