I've got a problem with furries but that's because I am one.

Overall this place has a general pessimism but that's not unique. It's pretty much all over the internet. I'm excited to catch up and do my best to inject some positivity when I can.

It's furry adjacent in the way that some furries have adopted it into their "interests"

Not the most popular furry media but I have seen some **** and no sir none of that for me.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure sure what qualifies as furry media. I get that it's not inherently sexual in nature but that seems to be a common association, and I can't say "Let's have the Turtles ****!" or at the very least making it fappable has never been a major aspect of the official TMNT material. I'm also not sure how much focus there needs to be on animal people, sure the Turtles themselves are animal people, but for most installments in the franchise the majority of the characters are humans or aliens (some of which may look like animal people but a lot of them don't), with the exception being the 2012 show, Rise and the current arc of IDW. Then if I'm not mistaken, one of the guidelines for Furry art is to make the characters look kind of cute, and while that may shift the original Laird/Eastman designs are hardly cute with the constant scowling and blank eyes.

I mean most of the new aliens in Star Trek Lower Decks are animal people and that show might have more of them than TMNT typically does, the designs of them are arguably pretty cute and there's even a little bit of sexual stuff with them involved (more than most of TMNT anyway). So does that mean Star Trek (or at least this iteration of it) is more " furry adjacent" than TMNT?

Spoiler:

I would include a video/image of the Cat lady straight up saying she wants to **** the Bajoran but I can't find it.

With TMNT there used to be very few female mutants in the old days (I guess before the Nick/IDW era), with only a few like Mona Lisa or Ninjara but there weren't too many notable ones.

There's been more since IDW/Nick, but I guess I never saw TMNT as a furry franchise because most mutants were just either enemies or friends of the Turtles and relationships has never been a major part of the franchise before.

That show doesn't count. It isn't real Trek.

Setting the debate over wheter or not Lower Decks should be thought of as real Trek, because the question is still relevant to the show itself, is it "furry adjacent"?

It doesn't really have more animal people characters than most of TMNT. So does it count as "furry adjacent" if most of the characters are either human or aliens that look like humans with forehead cancer but they constantly run into animal people?

Sulu once banged M'ress in an officially licensed Trek comic, for whichever way that swings the ol' pendulum.

Oh! Well, I guess in-universe that wouldn't be considered weirder than Sarek and Amanda or Torres' parents... Still, the purring should make it a bit awkward.

I could make a very common and very racially insensitive joke about people from a certain part of the world and their alleged affinity for turning cats into cuisine, and it would be very funny, but I'm already kinda pushing my luck today as it is. So you're just gonna have to use your imagination and fill in the blanks yourself.

"Oh myyyyyyyy" indeed.

"I am a heterosexual! I LOVE vaginas!" Guess he wasn't kiddin'.

Well, Sulu was gay in the Abrams-verse. Did we ever get any official word on Sulu's sexuality in the canon main timeline? I know the Mirrorverse Sulu hit on Uhura, but DS9 pretty much confirmed that the Mirrorverse might as well be renamed the "Bisexual Nymphomaniac" universe.

I think that I read that Takei was a little annoyed about that bit in the Abrams-verse, and that he himself didn't ever play Sulu as "gay" specifically, he felt like that was just something they tacked on for the reboot because they assumed "Since George Takei was gay, so was his character by default". But I guess maybe that isn't true?

I know some gay actors and voice actors come right out and say, "All my characters I play are gay unless it's stated otherwise," but I'm sure that's not a blanket rule, people are individuals.

Based on Takei's nonplussed reaction, if true, perhaps George Takei was gay but Sulu was straight.

I mean, I was kinda just taking a chance to make a silly joke about the M'ress thing, but like many things, at the time it was published it WAS stated as being "totally canon, you guys". So in at least one universe, Sulu was either straight or bisexual. And also, a furry.

I ain't mad. Must get lonely in space. Kirk had the right idea.

Sulu had a daughter (Demora, as seen in Generations). So assumption was that he was hetero. (Until Takei came out, of course.)

Which is dumb. Should Spock suddenly be a homosexual because Zachary Quinto came out?

I recall when Star Trek Beyond came out. The filmmakers wanted to make Sulu homosexual to honor George Takei. But he was against the idea because he always portrayed Sulu as Hetero.
