Live Action Aladdin coming

You guys called it! Many of the comments on this article about Disney's new take on The Lion King rightly predicted that Aladdin would be next, and Deadline just broke the news that Guy Ritchie (Snatch, Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) is being lined up to helm a live-action adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1992 animated classic.

No other details have been provided, but best of luck to the actor they cast to follow the late Robin Williams' performance as The Genie.

Disney really do seem to be working their way through their back-catalog of films, and also have live-action interpretations of Beauty and The Beast and Mulan in the pipeline. What's next? let us know what you think in the usual place.

I hate this Aladdin is my all time favorite disney animated movie. I don't care who they cast as Genie nobody beats Robin Williams as him

Disney is really running out of ideas if they have to make all there animated movies live action

How about Lewis Black as the genie?

They better cast all arabs and muslims as the main characters. The political correctness bashlash will be through the roof otherwise.

The Sultan flat out says, "Praise Allah" in the movie.

No references to the middle east setting outside stuff like buildings etc. Jazmine will be latina with a white complex and no midriff bearing.

Still I think their live action movies have been pretty well at adapting the stories so I'm up for it.

Nah, Lewis Black would be awesome. Or maybe Kevin Hart.

Trying to think outside the box on this...

And you will in 2 weeks on Once Upon A Time (Aladdin is a savior so Jasmin's probably gonna die. Bad enough Jafar is the son of the Sultan...Unless that has been retconned) Or you can just watch "Kid in Aladdin's Palace", The Descendants stuff or any of the other live action Aladdin related films that have come out over the years.

In the UK there's an excellent live action Aladdin series called Jamillah and Aladdin. It's set in Baghdad about this modern day girl of Indian (the country) descent who inherits the lamp and has adventures in the past (the Genie's powers barely work right since he was in the lamp for like 1000 years). 2 seasons so far.

If Jasmine was live action she would be simply breathe taking. I have always loved Jasmine's looks the best out of all the princess's. I do hope they get an actual woman of middle eastern descent to play Princess Jasmine (and all the cast really). I mean I know it is most important is the acting ability and suitability of the actor, but I hope they do not just get some Italian or Hispanic something actor that only mildly looks the part to play the characters and actually go for authentic looks.

I have always found middle eastern women exceptionally beautiful. Their thick dark manes of hair, their olive skin complexions, that run any where from light to deep in tone, and their eyes! My God middle eastern women have most beautifully shaped eyes. I mean damn look:

[SPOILER]

But at any rate I am happy they are doing Aladdin. Not upset about this.

Here we go again with ridiculous complaints over insulting actors who have passed away like Ghostbusters and Harold Ramis.

Genie was not Robin Williams most memorable role and Genie wasn't even the main character. Plus it was animated and Jumanji was based in a book. They're movies. Nobody's insulting anyone.

Oh ya Disney needs to end Aladdin (of all things) forever because of Genie. Stop with the deliberate cynicism. I know some people just enjoy complaining about movies. The only one I could see anybody having a legitimate issue with would be Mrs. Doubtfire.

It'll be interesting to see if the movie ties to that genie-centric prequel that was announced.

I'm curious if anything from the original story will be added to the movie (like the Genie in the ring, for example). It'll be hard to imagine someone other than Robin Williams (or someone mimicking Williams) as the Genie, but the live-action movies have had excellent casting so far, so I'm inclined to trust that they'll make the right call.

Another movie I like to see in live action but come on Disney WE NEED A LIVE ACTION GARGOYLES MOVIE PLEASE.

Guy Ritchie is directing a Disney Movie

That's pretty strange. I don't think he's a great director but I did enjoy Snatch and Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels though.

Cool this was the live action redo I wanted most. Aladdin is the Disney movie I liked most growing up.

Not that I don't like the others. Lion King should be cool too.

Why are these necessary? I mean, given how they're still making these even though Alice Through The Looking Glass flopped, it can't just be brand recgonition or money.

Without Robbin Williams as the genie there is no point to this movie and it is an insult to his memory to do it now.

I'll stick with my blu rays of the three animated movies. I have no desire to see this re-adapted, especially without Robin Williams.

I hope that Mulan remake at least gives Ming-Na Wen a cameo.
