Same. I liked the modern take on how all of this started during our era.

It's a weird thing. With the first two, I never felt an irresistible pull to go to the theater, but later on -- both times -- I watch them and I love the hell out of them.

Yeah, this looks pretty compelling. And Woody Harrelson as the bad guy? Count me in

I think that reaction would be fair given the 2001 Planet of the Apes reboot was rather mediocre. I was taken by surprised by this reboot too, I didn't expect it to be good.

The 2001 version of PotA should have been boiled down to an episode of The Twilight Zone or The Scary Door. It had an interesting twist but it did not warrant a feature-length film to set up the context.

Cubed and Andrew convinced me to give the reboot a try, and we LOVED "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." Great movie. That first time Caesar speaks was incredible.
"Dawn", not so much. Felt much more predictable and trope-driven.

Planet of the Apes, much like Star Wars or Star Trek, is a "cultural phenomenon."
When something is a "cultural phenomenon" that means the vast majority who likes these types of movies tends to like it. |

Goodness gracious this movie is AMAZING!
So heartfelt, so emotional. I'm glad I checked this out. Andy Serkis totally delivered as Caesar. This movie better get an Oscar at least. A 5/5 stars. |

This was pretty great. Thought they did a lot of cool stuff to connect it to the 68 movie too.

I must be the only one who piked the 2001 reboot... it wasn't perfect but it was also different enough to set it on its own.... and I wanted to see more of what happened in that world.
These new ones, the first was okay but the 2nd one I really didn't care for... hoping to see this next one and that its decent... |

I enjoy these movies even if I personally can't stand Serkis. But I grew up on the old movies and enjoyed almost every ape movie sans 2001. Monkeys are fun

I actually love the 2001 reboot movie and the new trilogy (Rise, Dawn, War).
I did try watching the first old 1968 movie but it really didn't do it for me - outdated cinematography, cheesy script, unrealistic ape costumes, poor "hi-tech" space equipments (which look shoddy today), meh settings... a lot of suspension of belief in order for me to really enjoy it. I dunno, I feel like giving the original movie another go, maybe I'd change my mind. |
