Well they are kind of running low on new original ideas so mining classic literature for the upteenth time seems safe enough.

It's like all the modern remakes of 70s and 80s slasher movies where they have to take cellphones out of the equation. It's almost always either dead batteries or no service, which makes the protagonists look clueless.

You can't have something faithful to the book and change the gender of all the characters, that's an oxymoron. I don't think this is any SJW pandering they likely just want to try something new with the story which is fine and frankly more interesting but don't cal it faithful.

Good book but not a feel good book, never seen any of the films.

The idea of a "Gender Flipped Lord of the Flies" intriguing me, but at what point does it change enough from the source material to go from being the All-Female Lots to a completely unique story, only loosely inspired by LotF?
