Hooked up the Genesis. Been playing After Burner II, Road Rash 1 and 2, Superman, Street Fighter II, and WWF Royal Rumble. Good times.

I love Road Rash. I wonder if any modern developer could bring that franchise back in a successful way. Imagine the high-octane thrill that modern tech could bring to having a chain hurled at you while hurling down the pavement at 100 mph.

Jedi knight: Dark forces 2. This game alone is better than the new trilogy by Disney.

I've beaten Zelda II a few times but only with a book. Although I think it's only really necessary for the "Spider Fields" and cave maze part late in the game. But man, that game is tough. I don't think I'd attempt it without a book at this time in my life.
Specifically, "NES Games Secrets" by Rusel DeMaria. His books were all the rage back when I was a kid. Especially since back in those days, knowing HOW to get past a tough part was one thing, but actually doing it was another.

Zelda II was pretty hard. Back in the day, I'd have my cousin over, or I'd be over at his house, and he played through most of the game, even though I was the one who owned it. He finished off the first five dungeons, and I finished up the rest, although he was the first to do the Great Palace and find Thunderbird. That boss was tough, and I remember getting so frustrated about not being able to defeat him. Especially this one time where I just needed ONE MORE HIT to finish him off, but I got done in. My attack level then was at 7. I should have had it at its zenith, at 8, and it would have taken fewer hits to defeat him. So I was just happy when I finally got him out of the way. |

That's what the book always calls it so I'unno how else to refer to it. Late in the game there's a spot where you can stock up on extra lives while also having to fight lots of those jumping spider-like enemies.
Sorry I can't describe it better than that, I'm very sleep-deprived and also, full disclosure, "It's 4:20 somewhere" and all'a that jazz. I should just grab the book since it's right over there, but yeah, nah, not 'til I get up. I legitimately like Zelda II in spite of how hard it is and its "Black Sheep" status. Even before I actually made any progress in it or knew what I was doing as a kid, I always had fun with it even though I'd get stuck early. It definitely sticks out like a sore thumb among its brethren but I still like it.

I've been playing quite a lot of Assassin's Creed this year myself. I last played Assassin's Creed III sometime from 2013-2014 and I don't know where the time went because I just barely got back to the series with Liberation and Black Flag early on in the year, and I'm currently playing through Unity. Origins really caught my eye though and when I realized how far behind I was, I had to get cracking.

Walkthrough yes, as I had no idea where to go. I watched a let’s play on YouTube to guide me. I played Zelda 2 on the Switch NES system and used save states / the rewind feature.
I played and beat Zelda 2 a second time without the walkthrough/rewind feature. The only time I used save states is when I took a break. |

Zelda II was actually the first game I've ever played, and owned. I'm not sure why I went with that one first, but I remember being told by a lot of people that it sucks. |

Recently bought digital versions of Morrowind and Oblivion (GOTY editions) from GOG and was pleasantly surprised to find they've given me free copies of Arena and Daggerfall. So I've been playing Elder Scrolls Arena
