OK Captain Literal; prompted him to quit. He took the job, he was pressured into quitting, and unless it had something to do with Jiminy Cricket I'm guessing it was social media, either working on him directly or on the suits, who then asked him to fall on his sword.

Surprisingly, some people do actually have a conscience and want to see the advancement and equality of all people in all walks of life.

I remember one time a long time ago I was telling my sister a story about how there was a fire in Newark. The Mayor at the time was one of the people who rushed in trying to help. First thing she says is "imagine if he set up the fire to make himself look good?"

Some people are just super cynical.

Of course they can. I don't necessarily think the decision was made under duress; simply motivated by the actions of a mob. I can't read this guy's mind, so perhaps he did turn down a lucrative gig for reasons of conscience, but he said in his statement that he did it after being made aware of the backlash.

It's his business why he stepped down, but in doing so he's setting a precedent that may not always be wielded with noble intent.

I have a feeling this is going to (at last) establish Niel Marshal as a bit of a darling among comic fanboys. You'll hear his name tossed around for director candidates of different superhero properties along the likes of Matthew Vaughn and Edgar Wright. Calling it now.
