2018–present Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Leonardo
(voice) Main role

Oh. Well that's a shame.

This production continues to bat 1.0, just from the wrong end.

About the design. Why are people ok with almost everything else pop culture has created but a live action Hedgehog is totally off the table? This is where the line is drawn?

The quality of the movies aside, designs of the character have actually been fair representations. Nobody can argue the chipmunks should have been kid sized humanoids. Turtles (Henson ones) Garfield, Yogi, Smurfs, Scooby etc...all turned out looking fine.

Even if Sonic turned out looking horrible, which I highly doubt, it’s one person’s or team’s interpretation.

Going full nerd for a second...if Sonic was real and landed on Earth would people just reject his existence because he’s not some Space Jam style animated entity?

You're missing the point as usual. After the Detective Pikachu trailer dropped, people were hoping/expecting that they'd do the same thing to Sonic what was done to Pokemon: take the base design from the games and apply texure. If they had simply done that from the start, the majority of fans would have accepted it gladly. Sonic is essentially a fantasy creature, no one wants to see him or his universe grounded for the sake of realism.

Aside from the eye gap thing that they admitted they changed, the silhouette and bridge posters just showed some muscle added to his arms and legs. That’s literally the only difference between his cartoon version that was revealed to us. So nobody can really say they went too far from what was given to us.

Now the leaked picture where he’s on top of the cop car is probably close to what we’re getting. Nobody can truly think that’s horrible looking.

The fan edit posted here some pages back also looked good. They kept some mass to his body but just adding texture is nothing. Pikachu is 99% animal to begin with.

You mean aside from the gloves and shoes which have been essential to the design since '91? Oh yeah, they've made some real minor changes./s

You've been using that excuse since the beginning, and it's still as weak as ever. I bet if DP changed the designs of the Pokemon you'd be singing a different tune.

You knew what I meant but the shoes are actually the only nitpick I can agree with. Just based on laces can untangle.

because you keep bringing up Pikachu as the only reference for live action cartoon characters.

I keep bringing it up it the Pokemon in Detective Pikachu because they look as though they were torn straight from the games into our world. You have yet to provide one solid reason why the same couldn't have been applied to Sonic instead of having his design altered for the sake of "realism" when his design is just as fantastical as Pokemon.

His body needs some mass. Pikachu already has mass. Nothing about Pikachu’s body is too cartoon-ish to imagine on a real animal. Just adding texture to Sonic does nothing but make him furry.

This was the edit I was talking about. Even they clearly kept mass and structure to his body. They just altered it a bit. Oh and the gloves which he might get by the end of the movie.

Ben Schwartz tweeted this yesterday. Could this be hinting at a Trailer this week?

Also the director responded to it. So who knows.

2. Game begins
3. Gotta go fast
4. Collect emeralds on the way

That's all I ask for. Hence why I love the Mega Drive Sonic games and Sonic Mania.

I do agree that classic Sonic games are a tad overrated in retrospective, however. The very first Sonic game didn't age that well. Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone aren't really fun zones or zones where you use your speed. It's kinda funny how speed was the thing Sonic has always been known for but the first game is quite platformy. You're also not supposed to run a lot in the Scrap Brain Zone. Too many hazards. Green Hill Zone and Starlight Zone are the two zones where you're "allowed" to go fast the most. Hell, the spin dash wasn't even a part of the game!

Tbh, Sonic was pretty much a game made to show off what the Mega Drive/Genesis could do in terms of speed in comparison to Super Nintendo. Hence the "blast processing" marketing slogan thing. The speed gimmick certainly is what made Sonic popular, but in 2019 it's a bit outdated. I mean, in games like F-Zero X and GX you could drive pretty fast. Wouldn't be surprised if there were more fast paced games out there either. Not to mention how Sonic looks quite faster in a 2D game than in a 3D one.

I'm not saying the Sonic games were bad, but they're not as good as the best 2D Mario, Mega man or Donkey Kong games are, imo. Super CastleVania IV and Shovel Knight are also superior games to any of the classic Sonic games, imo. BUT, Sonic games at their best are quite fun. Sonic 2, CD and Manai in particular are pretty fun to play. The problem with Sonic games is that the jump controls aren't as polished as they are in the other games I mentioned above. Timing your jumps in Marble Zone, Oi Ocean Zone, Spring Yard Zone, Casino Night Zone and Labyrinth Zone can be rather frustrating at times.

That being said, classic Sonic games are fun and I prefer Sonic 2 and Sonic Mania to Super CastleVania IV or Shovel Knight, despite those games being better games overall, in my opinion.

That all changed when we got to Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Then we had a pretty cool story and setting Sonic on Earth.

Honestly, you are such a drama queen. I can already imagine how much worse you'll react when they actually show the design.
I feel like she's trolling now at this point. Claims to be a Sonic fan but is flipping out over set pieces that show nothing and a picture of a dude holding an ice cream bar.
