Tom & Jerry should stay as a cartoon, but I'm guessing Tom and Jerry will be CGI as will possibly other aniimals from the cartoon such as Spike while the human cast will be actual people?

I remember watching Tom & Jerry's animated movie back in the 90s and liking it... except for it being a musical pretty much. But my memories of it are very foggy nowadays.

And here's another thing:

When has a CGI/live action move based on cartoons ever worked out well? Especially when the storylines had more in common than a direct-to-home release than a theatrical event?

Just look at the history with the Smurfs, Yogi Bear, and worst of all, Woody Woodpecker. The stars are not in alignment for this to succeed.

I guess if a movie like Space Jam was made today it'd flop miserably. That movie was made before CGI/live action as a combo was a thing, but then you remember that Looney Tunes Back in Action wasn't CGI either and yet was also a box office bomb.

How many cartoon based movies with both cartoon characters and and actual people have been successful? Roger Rabbit, Space jam and what else?

Those Chipmunk movies sure made a lot of money despite being whatever the opposite of "any good at all" is.

At least in Roger Rabbit, the world made sense as to why humans and cartoon characters were interacting with each other. And it wasn't trying to make the cartoons "real" animals or people within the context of the world. It kept the recognizable cartoon characters to the background and kept interaction with Eddie to a minimum. If they were there, it was usually for a gag (the two ducks on the piano, Bugs and Mickey skydiving together)

And most of all, had a story that was a lot more interesting and had stakes. It wasn't an "oh no a rich guy wants to build a house in this spot of the woods" or within the same narrative "petulant brat has daddy issues, this cartoon no one but Brazilians care about will help!"

I only remember watching an Alvin the Chipmunk film many many years ago and it was fully animated, not a live action CGI. I remember liking it somewhat, I guess.

I didn't grow with Alvin and the Chipmunks. It came out several years before I was born, after all.

My niece was OBSESSED with those goddamn movies about ten years ago. She'd play them on a loop for hours. Real treat for me.

I'm a grouch, I know, but I don't lie to people; when she'd ask, "Isn't this FUNNY?!", I'd say no. I also told her she'd grow out of that kind of stuff in a year, at best, and feel kind of ashamed of herself for being so enthusiastic about something so terrible.

Point of fact, I was right and she later apologized for making me sit through that sh*t. Hey, nobody bullsh*tted me when I was 10, the least I can do is pay it forward.

As a kid, there were definitely some cartoons and anime I found to be mediocre or even bad. Even if my standards weren't that high at the time. I've always found Angela Anaconda kinda crappy, for example. And when I see people of my generation talking about that show nowadays... nearly everyone seems to agree with that sentiment

So bloody stupid.

What's next, a live action Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck film? Or how about a Mickey Mouse film?
