Planet orbiting Barnard's Star discovered
Spanish astronomers have discovered a rocky planet orbiting Barnard's Star. A massive atmosphere can potentially warm up the planet, and make conditions more hospitable to lifeforms.

I love reading about stuff like this, but c'mon. How would we ever go there, then generate "a massive atmosphere" there? Meaningless.

Not to mention the only place outside of Earth we've set foot on yet was the Moon. So before thinking of that we should think how to get to other planets.

Neat! Although, unless I missed something in the article, who says any find like this is always intended with plans to visit or colonize... I think it's more about just finding solid proof that we aren't alone out here.
Wanting to visit or move to another planet outside of our own solar system is probably entirely unrealistic anyhow. No living human leaving planet Earth on that trip would make it there, to another solar system, alive to begin with. If you could create a space ship that would even sustain people long enough, how many generations would it take? How many would even survive it? And probably not enough would even be going so people who somehow successfully colonize it would eventually just interbreed themselves out of existence anyhow. Not to mention that by the time people reached it that it would be a generation that hasn't a clue about living on a planet of any kind, let alone a primitive one, as they were born and raised on a high tech space ship. Nor have any say in the matter either way, just born with the expectation of fulfilling their grandparent's dream, which they could choose to reject. |

So.... The ST TOS episode with Kahn? We all saw what happened when they woke up. But they were war criminals, so there's that.
