TNT Reviving Tales From The Crypt As Part Of New Horror Block

http://411mania.com/movies/tnt-reviv...-horror-block/

Quote:
Good news, boils and ghouls! TNT has ordered a new two-hour horror block that will be curated by M. Night Shyamalan. As part of that block, we will hear the familiar cackle of the Crypt Keeper once again. That’s right, TNT is bringing back Tales From the Crypt. It was announced today at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. The new series will be based on the original and contain new stories executive produced by Shyamalan and Binding Edge Pictures partner, Ashwin Rajan. In addition to the new Crypt (a serialized one-hour anthology, which could include several new episodes at the end of the season), there will be other content that hasn’t been revealed yet. The new horror block will launch this fall. TNT will announce more shows in the next few months.

TNT Executive VP of Original Programming Sarah Aubrey said: “This is a new genre for us in our series efforts and a great chance to partner with M. Night Shyamalan, whose blockbuster hit The Visit reminded movie audiences and critics this past summer that he truly is a master of horror. This two-hour horror block demonstrates not only TNT’s commitment to working with today’s top talents, but also our strategy to stand out in today’s marketplace by challenging the conventional rules of programming and scheduling.”

Shyamalan added: “I couldn’t be more excited to be teaming up with Kevin Reilly, Sarah Aubrey and the entire TNT team in this unique endeavor. To be part of such a beloved brand like Tales From the Crypt, something I grew up watching, and to also have the chance to push the boundaries of genre television as a whole, is an inspiring opportunity that I can’t wait to dive into.”

The new Crypt will also be executive produced by James D. Stern through Endgame Entertainment, along with Aloris Entertainment’s John Santilli and Dan McKinnon. The series started as a 1950s EC comics series by William Gaines and was later adapted for several seasons by HBO in the 90s.

If they bring back the original voice actor for the Cryptkeeper itll have all of my hype.

If it has John Kassir making bad puns, I'll definitely be tuning in.

Big fan of the comics/show/1972 film and this can be a nice comeback.

Tales of the Crypt is nothing without the Krypt Keeper and John Kassir voicing him. Period.

The cryptkeeper might seem a little silly but it kind of gave it a distinguished form just another anthology show. Only one story for the whole season doesn't seem like a very fun idea either. Anthology shows are great, not everything has to have a story arc and if there's a story arc it could be something subtle.

I'm not feeling it with this one, but I'd love a new anthology horror show, it's really the only type of "horror" genre that I can stand. Horror movies are very boring to me. I still have plenty of seasons of the original TFTC I've never watched though so I still got "new" content for me to enjoy.

TNT’s “Tales From the Crypt” Reboot Gets the Axe?

Quote:
It was a week of gifts given, until it was all taken away.

Did TNT just pull the plug on their planned “Tales From the Crypt” reboot?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but a source close to the development process is telling me that the reincarnation of “Tales From the Crypt” is in hot water, if not dead altogether (allegedly for months now). What I’m being told is that budget issues has caused the M. Night Shyamalan project – part of TNT’s planned Horror Block, which was to also include “Time of Death” and “Creatures” – to cease development. This is all of the information I have at this time.

This has not been confirmed as of this writing, so it should be taken strictly as rumor until there’s more information to share. (Shyamalan has always been vocal on social media, so I would expect some sort of response before the end of the week.)

“Tales From the Crypt” was greenlit back in April as they were ramping up an initial 10-episode order of the anthology series that would have reinvented the Crypt Keeper, based on the original EC Comics.

In August TNT president Kevin Reilly said to expect the show in the fourth quarter of 2017.

The project was announced as a new block of terror and suspense that was to be curated by Shyamalan, the Oscar-nominated writer-director of The Sixth Sense, Signs and Unbreakable, and executive producer of the the Fox series “Wayward Pines.”

The block was said to feature both short and long-form storytelling, led by the “Tales From the Crypt” anthology series, executive-produced by Shyamalan, his partner at Blinding Edge Pictures, Ashwin Rajan; Endgame’s James Stern; and Aloris Entertainment’s John Santilli and Dan McKinnon.

There’s no word on the fate of the entire Horror Block, which is something we’ll also have to keep an eye on.
Welp

They should do a show like Crypt but with a different name. It's like the other horror shows Tales from the Darkside and such anyway.

Unless everything was supposed to be based on the Crypt comics.

I honestly don't see any reason Tales From the Crypt couldn't just start up right now, new season, picking up after the old ones. New stories. Modern. Crypt Keeper still narrating. I feel like that'd click, even if you've never seen the old show.
