Kevin Eastman on Pawn Stars

I was catching up on what I put on the DVR and had a pleasant surprise, Kevin Eastman appeared on Pawn Stars this past week to verify a copy of TMNT vol. 1#1 first printing that he had signed. It shows how the show is scripted if Kevin can just walk in the show and verify it since he lives in Florida though frequently makes trips to San Deigo for consultation. It's also interesting that Rick notes that Kevin Eastman is a personal friend. The price that the unofficial grader set was also higher than I expected.

Again Kevin mentions how what was supposed to be a joke turned into a masterpiece. Well, if he can't label a price on it, I wonder who can.

When I was a kid, the "value" of a 1st printing was fixed in my mind as somewhere between $100-$200, which seemed like a lot of money to me.

My current sense of the value of the comic was that it was somewhere between $500-$1000, so I think $8,000 cash should have been a no-brainer to accept for it.

Funny that the guy came in wanting $60k for it and then practically begged them to give him $30k for it after the consultant recommended a market value of at least $11k if the grade could be improved by 0.2 points.

The full episode is called "Secret Agent Pawn" (Season 17, episode 11) in case anyone has a compatible cable subscription for streaming purposes:

Fun to see him, but there was no point to his appearance.

Guy: "How much is it worth?"

Pawn guy: "Let me bring in an expert."

Kevin Eastman shows up.

Pawn guy: "How much is that worth, Kevin?"

Kevin: "I have no idea."
