Not having read the original Preacher and only having watched the first two episodes, I can't answer this question in terms of A, B, or C changes. Popular culture isn't exactly tripping over itself to argue that black women can be badass, gorgeous, vulnerable, or three-dimensional (and when it does, it then does its best to keep these women at the margins until they can be killed off) so when it happens, it feels special. She feels more badass, original, interesting etc., than she would have otherwise felt, and stands out in a world of white female badasses. This isn't because of anything inherently racial, but because of the way the world deals with race, which is not the same thing. There's a world in which the difference would be merely cosmetic, but that world is not this one.

Well considering this thread got bumped it may be a good place to say it.

Unfortunately, April's inspiration, a woman of color by the same name that Eastman was in a relationship with around the time of TMNT's creation, passed away two days ago. I caught wind of it from Mark Bode's Facebook. Everyone said she was wonderfully sweet & beautiful. RIP
