Best single issue?
Hi there.
Long time reader, (almost) first time writer. With a question: What is the best single issue of TMNT - of all time? Mirage/Archie/Image/IDW - doesn't matter. The. Best. Single. Issue. ? Only "rule": It must be an enjoyable read on its own, not as part of a larger storyline. Last edited by Turtles; 03-19-2020 at 11:52 AM. Reason: spelling mistake |

Villains-Micro: Bebop and Rocksteady
Hands down, everybody loves to hate Bebop and Rocksteady and this single issue of turtles solidified them both on their normal level of humour I’d remembered and exceeded, as well as making them legit threats against the turtles in my mind, it was an awesome issue to explore the two as characters where they came from, who they are and what they could do And even better, left me wanting to read more, lol, I frequently recommend this issue to folks who have never read a single issue of the series, or ANY continuity of turtles comics and have yet to find someone I couldn’t sell this to! Likely I’m playing faves on this one, there are probably way more iconic issues out there, but on sheer enjoyability and accessibility this Micro is definitely the one I’d recommend most by itself =B

Is it too cliche to go with Mirage #1? I mean its really solid.
I also love the Mirage Leo Micro. |

Tough to beat the original first issue, it’s a complete one & done issue with everything you need!
Raphael #1, Michelangelo #1, Tales of TMNT vol 2 #40, and Turtle Soup One-Shot are also all great stand alone issues.

Tales v2 #55 "A Day in the Life" and v1 #45 "Leatherhead, Too" are probably my favorite stand-alones
Honorable mentions to v1 #11 "True Stories" and #28 "Sons of the Silent Age", but they tie into longer narratives a bit more directly. |

Would it be cheating to list Image #25? Because that one is honestly one of my all time favorites.
Honorable mentions would probably Tales #50, IDW #100, and Vol. 1 #61. Archie is harder. I mostly remember stories from Archie, rather than individual issues. |

My Actual picks are probably Vol 1 #1 (duh), Mirage Donatello Micro, Archie #57, Tales Vol. 2 #5, and IDW #100, but I really prefer multi-issue arcs.

These are all excellent choices! Thank you all.
(Oh, I hope IDW collects the rest of Tales of the TMNT) |

Considering current climates, I'm hoping to find more time to read and such, hopefully I'll get the chance to use these suggestions as a place to expand my turtles reading beyond the IDW pages, so thanks for creating this topic too! =D

This is a great thread. It's my excuse to go through my TMNT runs looking at everyone's picks.

Leonardo One Shot from Mirage "What goes around..."
postively the best fight scene, real stakes, a turtle gets hurt showing they are no invincible. The shredder returns from the dead. |

Good choice!!!! It was a great story and reprieve from all the previous issue from Shredder's return.

Now this here is a really hard question. I don't know if I have a solid answer but here are some of my favorites. Mirage TMNT issue 2, Turtles in Time issue 3 and the Bebop & Rocksteady micro.

For me it's probably Mirage's Raphael #1 micro.
I'm a BIG BIG fan of IDW's series too (I like it better than Mirage) but I am starting to get fatigued and kinda wish they would stop with so much continuity. The whole thing, minus the micros, is one long, long, long story. We don't ever get just day in the life, done-in-one, slice o' life stories with IDW and the art changes are jarring. Mateus Santolouco is really THE artist of that series, but Sophie Campbell and Dan Duncan have been great too. A lot of the miniseries are hit and miss on the art duties. I think Mirage told better stories by default because they had an end. What exactly are the MACRO series in relation to the IDW Micros? |
