Origami Foot Ninja, better or worse than Robotic Foot Ninja?
Alright, is it a better idea or not? I'd still prefer humans, but at least I guess it's more fitting than the stupid robots...

Robotic Foot Soldiers aren't believable (at least in modern times). So not them.

The use of robots gets a bit stale, but I can't say that I find the concept of magic paper any more interesting. Zzzz.
It's almost less impactful really if they're just bemagicked origami created on the fly. It doesn't really matter if the Turtles destroy them then as more can just be made in that fight or later. At least destroying quite a few robots should have impacted Shredder's actual forces and mattered. (Even if the original series never quite acted like it did, at least not often.) Origami Ninjas aren't as iconic as the Robots (atleast not yet) but they're definetly much more creative

Robot Foot soldiers are boring and were only ever a Saturday morning cartoon copout so the kiddie Turtles could use their weapons. Origami Foot will serve the same purpose, but it's at least something more interesting.

I prefer humans. I like robot foot too but when used correctly, I got bored of the robot foot in 2012 and wish they hadn't completely replaced the human ones.
Origan ninjas are awesome too, it's a nice change to keep things interesting and new. The best thing about robot/paper foot ninjas is you know they can slice them up all they want. |

For Rise, I think the oragami schtick works. I certainly prefer them to robots.

Think about the Mirage stories where we got to meet some Foot guys. Got to get in their heads. Flesh and blood, real living and breathing ninjas stalking and trying to kill the Turtles... that's interesting.
Robots? What's that? There's nothing there. Not at all.

This is a question better asked when the show airs, after we see what the Origami ninja actually do.

Paper isn't appealing to me but as someone else pointed out, may suit this show.
Give me humans overall but so far as the turtles getting to slice something on a kids show then you can have the others, just not the whole clan maybe. |

Attack of the Paper Ninjas. We're the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We cut paper hard and fade away into the night. |

If Shredder is angry as his paper ninjas and goes to destroy some of them in a fit of rage, which Shredder do they face? Does he do it himself, or throw them in the mechanical one sitting in his office?

I think Orgami works better for this show. The new TMNT cartoon series has a more mystical bent in it's themes, we will have foot soldiers who are basically golems made of paper, whom the turtles can freely hack, cut, and slash their way through, decapitating and maiming endless numbers of the foot, without having actual people die.
Like the robot foot soldiers before them, some people hate this idea. They claim it 'censors' the turtle's violence, but it makes things more interesting, I think Think about it... we all love seeing the turtles take on giant swarms of foot ninja, ridiculous numbers of these guys that get cut down during a total fight, only to have large numbers of foot ninja re-spawn later in the movie, seemingly out of nowhere. I don't think an elite ninja clan is goign to allow large numbers of New Yorkers to join. That's why I think the origami ninja could be a BRILLIANT IDEA; created through a mystical Kuji-kiri ninja 'spell' the origami ninja serve as the lowest rung cannon fodder, while the foot lieutenants and everyone higher up the foot's command structure are 'flesh and-blood' people. That way, it has more meaning when the turtles cut down a LIVING foot soldier, but you can still have the mook swarms. This is at least, my take on non human foot ninjas, like robots and magical origami FOOT NINJAS. I think they have their place in TMNT, and can be an interesting story element, and not just censorship.

What was the in-story explanation for the switch?

In story explanation for what? We know why they went with robot Foot in the Nick cartoon, they explain it.
As for Rise, we obviously won't know. Why are you asking questions about a show that hasn't aired yet? |
