Tsunami kills 222 in Indonesia
Yep, it's that time again. A Tsunami in Indonesia. Sadly it's something that seems to happen there every year

Was this really Krakatoa erupting? That's crazy. The last major blast was legendary. It's a tragedy, too, that people were caught up in aftermath. What a horrible way to end the year.

Ah, so I'm NOT the only one who thought of that! The last time she blew, it was literally heard around the world! And nearly obliterated the island she's on. (It has since begun to "grow" back, but still is only a small fraction of the size it once was.)

It's crazy how you barely hear about this on the news or online. Whenever some disaster happens in poorer countries the world barely reports on it. You would never know this stuff is going on if you didn't browse the internet.

Yeah unfortunately... Thats why some many people died. There is a Tsunami when ever a earthquake is sensed, but this Tsunami is believed to be caused by the Volcanic Activity or Rock slide and there was no warning issued unfortunately.

Could have been MUCH worse. Krakatau's (That's the "proper" spelling, btw) big eruption in 1883 was literally heard around the world. Shattered eardrums on ships 40 miles away, was heard in Perth, Australia, as well as other locations as much as 3,000 miles away, and the sound waves traveled the globe 3& 1/2 times, being picked up in Russia, England, and Africa! As a comparison, the final blast was 4 times more powerful than the largest thermonuclear weapon ever detonated. Caused a volcanic winter for five years due to the amount of ash and sulfur dioxide that entered the stratosphere. (The ash plumes reashed 18 mi into the atmosphere.) The resulting pyroclastic flows and tsunamis (141 ft high!) Over 36,000 deaths were reported, mostly from the tsunamis and flooding, perhaps as many as 100,000 total from the aftermath. They were lucky this time, but that little volcano packs a deadly punch. And she's been awake again for several years now....

They're saying another tsunami is possible if the volcano continues to collapse
