You have a weird metric for what makes someone a good actor.

How so? She was just as annoying and ditzy in real life as her character was. Not much of a stretch as an actor if you ask me. And for that she got an Oscar....
"How you want me to play her?" "Just- be yourself! Yeah, let's go with that."

You haven't read much Spider-Man have you? Peter's uncle and aunt were much older than his parents. Almost more like grandparents. And May had a weak heart. They had quite a few stories that pointed out how much of an age gap there was between his aunt/uncle and his parents. Including one where his "parents" came back, or when Octavius almost married May, or when she "died".... You get the idea. Now the movies want her to be young and "fun". Why, exactly? It does not serve her character in any way. In fact it goes against her role in the mythos in many ways.

Aunt May being old and withered has been done to death. Yep, even the actress in Amazing Spiderman series complained there's nothing much to do for Aunt May than being a worrisome wart.
I'm glad Marvel took a change with younger looking and hip Aunt May. She's even trending worldwide. |

I never thought a 50+ year old could still be hot. We truly live in glorious times.

Sam Raimi's aunt May was super old. I'm 30, and none of my seven aunts are as old as she was then. 52 isn't even young to be the aunt of a 15-year-old. That makes her 37 when Peter was born. Why not say she was 20 or 25 then? This May might be younger than Tomei.
I've got aunts I don't remember ever hearing curse. But I've also never seen them take a shock like May did. I'm not really bothered. My parents were, though... I don't know how old you are, but have you never had the hots for somebody's mom? |

I finally got around to seeing Homecucking. It's alright. Not as good as the first two Raimi movies, but it did some things better than those I feel. This movie really captured Spidey's personality for me, and Vulture was a great "villain" (who did nothing wrong).
I hated the bland cinematography, but that's Marvel's style at this point. The best scene was obviously when Spoiler:

Well, snake, you're 15 in real life and Spiderman in this movie was said to be 15. Did he and his other classmates represent the young teens of today well? Is this what you guys do nowadays in the modern year of 2017? Would you say Peter Parker acts like the kids you know at school?
I was a teen back in the early 2000's, so I don't know about nowadays. |

Putting Flash Thompson in that group, I'm not so sure about. The stereotype of the star football player meathead that picks on weaker kids is 100% accurate and relevant. Keeping Flash like that could've definitely worked and would've added more sympathy towards Peter. That's an element I felt was lacking; Peter is never SEEN being bullied or put down. Peter himself wasn't an accurate portrayal of the typical teenager in my generation because he's too idealistic and happy. This isn't a criticism, and I love this aspect. For Peter to be accurate to most kids I know, he'd have to be a sarcastic, meme spewing, nihlistic asshole. Peter's legit a good kid, and a good role model at that. Like I said, they captured comic Peter perfectly. I can relate to him because what he does, I'd do. Not being a superhero, obviously, but putting together a Lego Death Star? F*ck yeah. He doesn't represent the "typical" teenager, but he represents the more introverted types perfectly. I prefer Homecoming's more accurate portrayal of modern high school over the typical dated movie high school anyday. Last edited by snake; 07-18-2017 at 09:25 PM. |

The movie takes place in New York City, that diversity isn't forced.

So something that doesn't speak to your experience specifically is automatically assumed to be forced diversity.
Huh. That's interesting. It's actually kind of interesting the Peter goes to a magnet school in the first place. Magnet schools are one of the ways in which cities are attempting to desegregate their Public Schools. By making the magnet schools white folk that fled the inner cities feel more comfortable sending their kids into what would otherwise be considered to them to be less than ideal conditions.

Nah, I don't think I will. But the please is a nice touch.
So something that occurred to me after I left the movie was the two-fold reasoning of getting the girlfriend or if town. One it will keep her from dating Peter. Two it will keep her a safe distance should they stay in touch. Because when someone comes gunning for the spider, they're going to take his friends and family too. I like that while he was completely unscrupulous, he still love his family. They just did such a good job with vulture.
