Aw hell no...

They should have Sinbad play Genie in Aladdin. That way all those reports about Sinbad in that FAKE genie movie would be retroactively true, somewhat.

Will Smith is almost 50 years old (he's 48 now), isn't he a little too old for this role? Genie was also rather, "big" and kind of "fat," in his chest area, Will Smith is far too thin.

Genie will likely be augmented with CG, he typed thinking that was a foregone conclusion.

Genie would be CGI won't he, so Will Smith will just be voice acting.

Wouldn't they still use Will Smith's face? They could only need to CG his magic/floating scenes.

Alan Menken says the movie will begin filming begins this August:

Quote:
Can you give us any teasers of what to expect with Aladdin?

It’s a very fluid process. Guy Ritchie is directing and he’s never directed a musical before so it’s going to be a lot of attempts to reinvent the wheel. Where it’s re-inventable, we will do it and where it’s not, we will discover that together. But it has to be a very fast discovery process because at this point shooting is supposed to start in August.

Reports are saying that Jade Thirlwall of Little Mix has been cast as Jasmine.

Also, I'm not going to believe it right now because a tabloid known as The Sun originally reported it, but there's a rumor that Tom Hardy is being eyed to play Jafar.

Why is Guy Ritchie directing a live action Aladdin? Who's doing the Little Mermaid? Nicolas Winding Refn?!

Disney is having a difficult time finding the right actors to play Aladdin and Jasmine. Production was supposed to begin this month, but now it won't begin until August. Power Rangers actress Naomi Scott and Tara Sutaria are also being considered for the role of Jasmine.

According to Twitter, some people really want former Victorious star Avan Jogia (who played Beck) and Jade Thirlwall from the girl group Little Mix as Aladdin and Jasmine.

Personally, I don't see this movie being good right now. Then again, if it's to find the right people to represent the characters' appearance, I understand. The Last Airbender, for example, missed the point of Avatar by whitewashing nearly, if not all, the cast.

It's certainly frustrating regardless.

Whoever they cast, Jasmine better look like this:

What? Oh. Wrong picture. Like THIS:

For Aladdin they'll probably just cast the Slumdog Millionaire/Avatar guy like they do for everything else.

I've seen reports that they're slated to white-wash Aladdin.
So there's that.

Yikes. This is definitely a movie where that is absolutely something they can't do.

Why don't they cast the main character from, "The Raid" as Alladdin? He can already do acrobatics so when Aladdin is jumping around and swinging swords he knows what to do.

I think that actor is Indonesian, isn't he? Close enough to play Aladdin.

"Close enough", Jesus Christ. Also, that man is old and can't pass for a teenager. Which Aladdin is.

Might as well get the Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story guy, at that point.

He's only 34, he's not that old. They usually have adults play teenagers in movies anyway.
