Playmates other line: Waterbabies.

So....what do you think of these?

My wife and I were shopping at Walmart and since we have a kid, and plan on a 2nd some time, look through the toy section. Then we saw this:

We were a little flummoxed. I even went so far as to post them to Facebook, as I wondered if anyone else thought this was awkward/morbid.

A look at Playmates Waterbabies website is also odd. Few dolls in any color other than white, other weird I Dream To Be characters like Mermaid or Soccer....how can you be Soccer?

Anyone else weirded out by Playmates OTHER line.

My mind was blown when it was revealed the reason they make doll toys for little girls is to prepare them for motherhood. Little girls are brainwashed into wanting to have kids and raise babies from the start.

Many girls actually do think a lot about motherhood and child rearing from a very young age. The toy and doll companies simply capitalize on market demand. I'm not sure "brainwashing" is the appropriate term, regardless of one's views on societal norms and traditional concepts about gender roles.

But yeah... these Water Babies do actually creep me out... as did all baby doll commercials I sat through in between cartoon segments back in the day.

*shrug* I remember them from years ago, pretty sure my sister had one, so not too odd to me. Mostly just a floppy rubber doll you fill with water. Not getting the angel thing though.
