I do have a licence, but I haven't driven myself anywhere in ages. Mostly because I don't have a car at my disposal. We're basically short a car at home lol.
Just launch me somewhere where driving isn't necessary and I can just walk to get what I need.

Yes, I've had a license since 1994. I'm on my 5th car now.

Why do Americans have their driver's license as their official ID? Why not a standard ID card like most countries do? Also, since it's not mandatory by law to get a driver's license then what will an American without a Driver's License use for an ID?

Yeah, that's easy (state ID). And generally mandatory if you want to do fun stuff like ever get a job or live in your own place.
Though many jobs, even ones where you will never drive, will require you to have a valid driver's license -- NOT state ID.

The manager also admitted that they have loopholes in place, for people who, shall we say, maybe aren't here legally. So, if you DON'T have a driver's license, you CAN get hired to work at FedEx, but ONLY if you're undocumented. Sounds crazy, but that's real life for ya.

I'm wondering if my state is different, given people talking about renewing their licenses. I received my driver's license when I turned 17 and it doesn't expire until my 65th birthday. Even when I got married and turned 21, all I had to do was go in, show my marriage license and they just gave me a new one with updated name, still same expiration date.
Not that I'm complaining but my picture is going to look really different by the time I'm 65. |
