"Highlander: Dark Places"

HIGHLANDER: DARK PLACES introduces Malej, a Brazilian Immortal who is over 500 years old. As he struggles to suppress the darkness that is slowly consuming him, Malej faces a choice: leave the Game to be with his mortal love, or give in to a half-millennium worth of rage by facing his one true enemy. DARK PLACES is a tale of love, honor and redemption - and an intriguing new chapter in the vast HIGHLANDER mythology.

"Highlander: Dark Places" will be a short film to appear officially on season 4, 5, or 6 of Highlander: The Series on blu-ray as a special feature. With Brainful Productions we have a pretty large production crew under us (around 15) led by Tom Nord of Adobe who's no stranger to short films. I've run all of my crazy ideas by him and he hasn't batted any eyebrows at any of them so I think we're in pretty good shape.

I'm directing it and writing, with (DC Comics, Dynamite Entertainment writer) Brandon Jerwa (reuniting with me for the first time since we worked on "Highlander Origins: The Kurgan" for Dynamite a couple years ago) not only co-writing but also scoring the movie with his local band, SD6. He's also worked with Tom Nord and Brainful Productions before on "Mythplaced" for the Seattle 48 Hour Film Festival.

Very excited about this and we'll do our best to make sure it does not disappoint. My goal is to deliver something we haven't seen before but still feels very much in the vein of the Highlander we know.

From the shoot last Sunday, a look at our new Highlander, played by Moses Olson (an experienced actor who is versed in many martial arts):

What can I say... I'm a Leonardo guy.

One of the few conditions we had is that we cannot involve any existing cast members of the series or movies at all... which is too bad. Rich Ridings (Silas, from the series) was willing to serve a role.

Wait, which was Endgame? I thought it was the one with both Connor and Duncan. Does Highlander 3 have a sub-title?
EDIT: IMDB is my friend:
Highlander III: The Final Dimension
Highlander: The Magician
Highlander: The Sorcerer
Highlander 3: The Final Conflict

Update: since all of this began, "Dark Places" has evolved into a full feature. The final running time is about 2 1/2 hours.

After 6 years, this December. I'm being flown out to Florida to participate in the 30th Anniversary Highlander Convention and do a little presentation on this.

This answers a lot of those:

Here is a music video that WHYZDOM created from footage from the film along with a custom version of "Bonny Portmore" that is used in the movie. It also kind of serves as the "final trailer."

It is now available for purchase on Amazon:

Unfortunately it is only available through them on DVD, for now. I do have blu-ray copies that are much better.

You should be very proud of this. The cinematography looks awesome. I was around fifteen years old and really liked the TV series. Got ahold of a merchandise magazine somehow and was close to ordering a replica of Duncan's sword. Do you use a drone for any of those shots?

We used a jib and a crane in a few places, no drone. Would have been nice!
