This is a franchise that could fit a sequel nicely that they shouldn't make.

The only sequel I could be interested in is one in which the alien manages to escape from that deserted frozen land and finally reach a big city.

So will it take the prequel into account or just ignore it? Anyway, isn't a sequel a bad idea? You know:
"How will we make it?" "Maybe we shouldn't?…" |

A sequel would hardly need to make any mention of the prequel either way.
I wonder, will it keep things "small" and just have it be a follow-up to the Antarctica and Norwegian people some time later? Should The Thing make it to the mainland and it be this big Body Snatchers-type epidemic?

Some people are saying this was more or less random talk about it and not actual confirmation that it's happening.

That's the problem with making a sequel, the computer made it clear that monster would infect the entire world in 27000 hours, that is to say three years. And let's keep in mind, the only reason it kept to humans and dogs is because those were the only living things around it could assimilate, place this thing in a jungle and you're screwed.
