It makes the most sense because she is set to debut during the Trial of Krang/TMNT: Dimension x storyline. We have a lot of characters in this event as it is so Maligna has likely more of a crime syndicate this time around.

I'm glad Ace Duck is an alien rather than a mutant. Never liked the original concept of Ace Duck from the toyline.

Yeah, I'm excited we'll be meeting a whole bunch of new alien characters in August since by then we'll have already gotten two new mutant characters this year (Dreadmon and Wyrm) and a handful of mystical ones (in the Pantheon story later this summer)

Oh dang, I completely forgot about Maligna! Guess I was expected something more grandiose for her than a "mere" crime boss (maybe even the next new big bad after #100), and somehow I always picture those as males, but yeah, I can dig it.

You think Scul and Bean will eventually make an appearance if Maligna becomes a focal point?

I always forget which is which out of the two of them (and only one can fire that projectile thingy, as I recall), but basing Scul and Bean's new designs on a mantis shrimp and a stag beetle wouldn't be the worst idea ever, IMHO.

I'm not familiar with Maligna yet, and I'm going to wait until her debut in IDW to go back and get familiar with her prior incarnations so that I can evaluate IDW's version on its own merit

Maybe that would be IDW's Rahzar/Dogpound?

It's Cryin' Houn'. BTW, not seeing IDW use any Nick characters aside from Pete for a while, maybe in a few years but not now. Rahzar was a better bet.

Yeah and Leatherhead too I think. Didn't he end up liking it or feeling fulfilled by it or something and not wanting to leave?

Archie Leatherhead (like what I found out most things in Archie TMNT are) isn't exactly the most sensical when it came to development. I guess they really had to make that dead in the water spin-off happen regardless of how much sense it made, either in-universe or the real world.
