IDW and DC Conclude Batman/TMNT Crossover Trilogy

Quote:
Writer James Tynion IV and artist Freddie Williams II are reuniting for a third Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles event series - with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman joining in as well.

Scheduled to debut May 1, this six-issue series begins when Krang from Dimension X gets ahold of some of the deadly technology the DCU has to bear.

"The story for volume three is a blast, and I am having the time of my life illustrating it,” said Williams II. "And lucky for me, I’m not alone in this grand task. I’m having a huge and exciting personal crossover of my own with one of my all-time heroes and favorite artists, Kevin Eastman! Say what? Yup, you heard that right! We’ve got something so fun and exciting planned! I’m geeking out about it every day, and I think all of you will, too!"

This comes out as Batman celebrates its 80th anniversary and the Turtles celebrate their 35th - and Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. Animation is partnering for an animated adaptation of the original Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles limited series.

"I still remember the e-mail asking me if I wanted to write the first Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover," said Tynion IV. "My brain couldn’t even process what I was reading for a few seconds, and I started having a panic attack about fitting it into my work schedule. Then, finally, I pictured Michelangelo’s reaction to seeing the T. rex in the Batcave for the first time and started laughing out loud."

Eastman several covers to previous volumes, but for Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III he will also be drawing a portion of the series itself alongside Williams II.

"I’m absolutely thrilled to have Kevin Eastman, co-creator of the TMNT, as our creative partner on the series," continued Tynion IV. "Kevin will be working closely with Freddie, contributing art on part of the run in a really exciting way that I can’t wait for fans to see. We’re going to see Bats and Turtles collide like never before in a story so big, it’s the perfect way to conclude our Batman/TMNT trilogy."

Eh.

The first one started strong and ended with a ridiculous mutagen-infused madhouse of zany action figure variants.

And the second one was just TERRIBLE, beginning to end.

I'm sure the third one will also rub me the wrong way.

"conclude"

So long as they remain highly profitable (and especially if the movie sells well), I'm sure there will be more crossovers!

After taking on R'as and Bane, I'm sad that the Turtles haven't yet (and apparently won't) gone up against plain ol' Joker. The first crossover sort of teased it in a couple of panels but it was quickly brushed aside.

Who's to say this won't be a Krang - Joker teamup?

Yeah, he's an amazing artist but the story... man. Ugh.

It still could be, yeah, but then I feel like the announcement would've made a bigger deal out of that. Who knows, though.

On a serious note, I think this'll be a Krang - Darkseid teamup. Maybe the rest of the Justice League will pop up too.

That's actually not a bad theory.

Except I feel like they'd brand that as "TMNT/Justice League" crossover.

If this is limited to Batman, then I'm pretty sure it's a Batman villain.

Interesting that Eastman's doing some of the art. I wonder if we're hopping into a "Miragey" dimension for some of this.

Honestly would have preferred a followup to Manning and Sommariva's Adventures crossover, writing was so much more solid but I think under-appreciated as being a kids title. Now that 2012 is kaput it probably won't ever happen though. And yeah let's leave Rise out of this...

What the hell is up with the Technodrome on that cover? It looks like it's contorting in some strange way and has two eyes. Did Krang punch the anti-life equation into it's computer or some ****?

Have they gone to Dimension X yet in these? Probably this is the TMNT and the Bat Family go there story.

Based on the cover, that's what it looks like.

Joker's mad enough to team up with IDW's genocidal Krang, so he's my guess for the villain. Or Poison Ivy, maybe.

No they haven't. The first one is set in the DCU, the second in pseudo-IDW and the Nick/BTAS one mostly takes place in the Nickverse apart from the final issue in which the Kraang invade the DCAU.

I'm thinking this is just going to have the JL pop up in a less major way, maybe in the last issue. I honestly doubt they're going to skip out on an opportunity to have the Turtles meet the League by the end of this, plus it could set up potential future crossovers.

I really hope they're not going to do a "Mirage" portion.

Why not, out of curiosity? Not necessarily disagreeing, just curious.
