Did Nikita Khrushchev bang his shoe into the desk?

On 12 October 1960, Nikita Khrushchev banged his shoe into the desk during a meeting at the United Nations. Or did he?

We all take it for granted. But today, I found some sources saying it never happened, clamining there are no photographs or videofilms from it.

I'm sure I've seen it from TV archives around 1997-1998.

I think this is the msot random thread to ever surface on the Techndrome Forums

But on the actual topic itself, I'm a huge history buff, but I never heard of that event until today. Who would've known that people make a big deal out of someone banging their shoes.

That's...not a topic you see everyday, but I must say it is certainly refreshing.

As for the topic at hand, something like that might had happened, but not usually as it's thought: Khruschev was not banging his boot on the tribune - he was sitting at the table with other delegates from various countries. There is version that he was not banging on the table at all, just demonstrated that he is about to do it.

To be honest, I am surprised that there is no definite depiction of this events, as it is not some random guy or a meeting.

It was an exaggeration of something that happened from what I was taught and what I teach as well. Its based on Khrushchev's alleged need to be the center of attention in every room he is in. It appears in the video that it is the bottom part of the shoe only as I had read before.
