I can't help but feel that those first few panels are a bit meta regarding Santolouco pouring his heart and soul into this mini for so long.

At this point, I just hope there is some...just some payoff at the end of this miniseries, some payoff that'll affect the ongoing. Even if it's something like the epilogue to Bebop and Rocksteady Hit the Road, I'll be happy.

So let me get this straight:
  • Brahma, a god worshipped by people in real life, is the father/creator of the Dreamer and Dragon.
  • These two are somewhat loose interpretations of Vishnu and Shiva, the preservation and destruction deities respectively.
  • The Dragon created the Pantheon to ease his "indecisiveness" regarding the world.
  • Human beings are extentions of the Dreamer and the darkness of humanity is the result of the Dragon influencing her.
  • And the Shredder...

Eehh, let's wait and see. More than likely yes, I agree that Splinter may very well may die before City at War is complete, but remember....the Kid Demon told Saki way back in the Shredder Villain Micro that time doesn't pass in a straight line in the afterlife, so surprises may be in store. After all, I think it's a safe bet to say that most of us (myself included) thought that Bebop, Rocksteady, and Anchovy were gonna have appeared by this point in the main title judging by the epilogue of B&R Hit the Road.... but it hasn't happened yet.

If Karai didn't put them to work during the assault on Splinter's Foot, I don't think they'll even show up for the rest of City at War.

It's a twist regarding Kitsune's plans for Shredder. We used to assume Shredder was to get possessed by the Dragon, but now...

This issue largely deals with concepts found in the Hindu religion. Even though they only go by "Dreamer" and "Dragon", it's pretty clear that they're based on the Hindu deities Vishnu and Shiva respectively, the gods of preservation and destruction. This is made clear when Dreamer states she and the Dragon are reflections of Brahma, who is both a god and the concept of a cosmic singularity. The basic idea is that everything that exist is really one thing that takes multiple forms.

Oroku Saki, Takeshi Tatsuo and the Dragon may appear to be different individuals but they are all one soul. The distinction is an illusion created by the different life experiences, a new sense of self takes root with new incarnations. The Dragon even seems to say this is indeed the case.

In short, what will make the Dragon break free is Shredder letting go of his sense of self and accepting that he is the Dragon.
