Ice hockey player dies following accident during game

29 years old American ice hockey player Adam Johnson died last Saturday, while playing a game for the Nottingham Panthers against the Sheffield Steelers in the British Challenge Cup. He was cut to his neck with an ice skate.

The rules are you don't have to wear a neck guard once you reach 18, they are ditching that for the moment so everyone will have to wear one.

Tragic, there seems to be some controversy around this, seen people on Twitter calling for his arrest, saying it was intentional, murder, hate crime. They posted the video in slow motion and you can see the guy kicks twice in the head/neck area. Crazy. Even if it’s truly a freak accident, he should never be allowed to play again, he killed someone. Other players probably wouldn’t feel comfortable around him.

I read that the dude who kicked him has been in trouble with that league for his on the ice actions. But next year I also read theyre making players wear neck guards.

I like how theyre making it completely random, "an arrest has been made". Just come out and say you arrested the guy who kicked him in the game.

UK media reporting is different to the US... we don't name names as quickly as they get outed over there. But yes, it's pretty obvious to guess it's the guy who kicked him.

Do they take race into consideration when naming suspects?

Even in the U.S. media they aren’t naming the “suspect”. Just says that the ice skate slashed someone’s throat.

Can’t believe this guy was still playing til the night before the arrest, and crowd was even cheering for him. Seeing alot of sympathy for the guy who’s “skate accidentally cut someone’s throat”.
