Toys R Us filing for bankruptcy

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-soon-as-today

Goodbye, sweet prince.

They're not closing all their stories, but they may be on their way out in the next couple of years.

Their toys are always more expensive than at anywhere else so I can't say I'll miss them.

It's a shame if they disappear. My Walmart, Target, etc can be pretty lousy with the stock... It's usually been Toys R Us that has come through for me at times and where TMNT stuff is concerned, at least here, the price is barely any different. When I couldn't find the 11" figures from the first movie and they were the last place I checked, I fully expected them to be more expensive but it was the exact same as Walmart.

If they close up, I hope its at least a slow departure and that mine is still around for a while. It's been there since I was a kid, maybe longer. Would be nice if they still get the last of the TMNT stuff... Lord knows my Walmart and Target can't hardly be trusted to ever get and stock much of it anymore.

Toys R Us could go bankrupt before the holidays. Some says by the end of this week.

Such a shame to hear this even though I haven't been there in years.

F*ck! First HMV now them?! F*ck! I'm just wondering if it's not because of eBay and Amazon playing rolls in this

Toys R Us has filed for bankruptcy while continuing normal operations.

You guys do know that bankruptcy isn't usually the end of a store, right? All that's going to happen is that they will restructure their debt and sell underperforming stores. If they do it right, they will be better off when they emerge.

It may be a good thing for them.

Was wondering that, though even if they stay around, how many end up lost?

I hope ours is doing okay and remains. (I only go during quieter weekday hours so I'm not sure what peak times look like.) We've only got one store around here (plus a Babies R Us not far from it) and that's it unless you want to go 20+ miles north to PA.

Ironically, Toys R Us themselves does sell some stuff via eBay.

Though prices there seem to be the same as in store, plus shipping if it doesn't qualify for free, so...eh. If I'm hunting eBay I'm looking for better deals than what I saw elsewhere.

Maybe Amazon aught to buy the company. edit: And mine and many others. *sigh*

I already posted in the other thread but yeah there's different types of bankruptcy, ch.11 the one they filed is to re-structure and renegotiate, many companies can come out well out of this, hell K-Mart is still slowly dying after doing that how long ago but unlike K-Mart TRU is in a better position. Apple, Marvel, GM have all come out of Ch. 11 before.

Babies R Us is what makes TRU their most money and is the one that has been under performing and sadly I don't see it getting much better.

Why should you care if TRU goes down? If you like toys then this will affect you even if you don't buy from TRU. Mattel and Hasbro have most of TRU debt and their stock fell sharply because of it, this clearly affects future plans.

Always loved TRU, I'm a TRU kid, their marketing actually worked.

Heard on the news that stores are going to remain open during this process so this is good news thus far.

The main thing to watch as to whether they will survive or not is how they manage the bankruptcy internally. If they don't slim down and carry on as normal, they are toast.

If they analyze operations, get rid of dead weight stores and get appropriate structure on their debt, they should emerge just fine.

Basically a wait and see and don’t panic yet

This is a bummer, me and my family used to shop there for holidays or birthdays, that was when it was less expensive, don't know how much the toys cost now at the place. Yah know, I'm starting to regret the internet being so big as it is now, it shuts down a lot of places these days and gives cable ratings a run for it's money. Shows these days hardly get renuewed due to lack of ratings and marketing with people watching things online, don't get me wrong I use it too LOL I mean Nick and Disney take so dang long to rerun episodes that have just aired, any thing not named SpongeBob or Teen Titan Go but.

It gets worse with streaming, I don't want to pay for that to watch my favorite Disney shows or DC shows, I really wanted to see the Young Justice season three and Titans live action series but if it's only going to on the net and you have to pay for it UGH, I already have Netflix and Hulu on my bill to watch this stuff now your telling me I have to add more to watch things like Star V.S the Forces of evil or the new up coming Big Hero 6 show or other original Disney shows?

Its bank in a small way. So a small group of Toysrus executives folded back to Toyrus being brand. I am not sure how it works but a deal was made with Target to allow an online presence and get a cut of its items bought through Target's website.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/10/08/target-is-going-to-power-toys-r-us-new-website.html

In addition to that an interactive single store was opened yesterday outside of Newark, New Jersey in a notable shopping area.

I came across the tail end of something being mentioned about it. And a second store set to open somewhere?

Hopefully it works out for them, it would be nice to have Toys R Us back. Esp after that Netflix esp about the TMNT and learning that TRU had a big role in us even having them in the first place, making it sadder that they'd closed up.

I wish our old store would just get remodel and reopened by the company. That space was used for a Halloween store, but now it's sitting empty once again.
