He must be a fan of that era. He was supposed to do a comic a couple years back that was described as a "Victorian female Batman"

I'm guessing that project/idea morphed into this new series.

First trailer. No mention of Whedon. I’m sure HBO was banking on marketing this show based on his resume (mainly Buffy and the Avengers) because the cast is full of relatively unknown actors.

HBO is also splitting the season in two parts so only the first 6 episodes will be out in April. Feels like this could be a one and done show.
