Viacom Purchases Paws Inc: Garfield Coming To Nickelodeon

Quote:
The lazy cat has for more than 40 years been the property of owner Jon Arbuckle, a socially awkward fellow who must indulge his pet’s debilitating laziness and constant sarcasm. But in weeks to come, the character will become one more element in Viacom’s vast Nickelodeon portfolio of intellectual property, taking his place alongside SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora The Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I swear I'd read that Jim Davis died 15 years ago, that his son was continuing things. I must have imagined that.

Nick should adapt Garfield Minus Garfield instead.

I always knew someone would buy Garfield eventually, maybe viacom will do more with the character than Jim Davis. Let's see. I actually got a letter from Jim Davis about a decade ago, I forgot the details of it but I wrote him and he wrote back.

Yeah, the movies they did in the mid/late 00's and the CG show just felt like failed potential and the franchise in general has felt that way. Paws Inc was always run by Jim Davis pretty much so I can respect that. Viacom can do a lot more with the franchise in other media since all Paws Inc was able to do successfully is license the hell out of Garfield.

That is still one of my top favourite animated series to this day.

I hope it's not as terrible as the show that was on Cartoon Network a few years ago...

To this day, it is to me the only 80s cartoon I can still watch along with The Real Ghostbusters.

I know Garfield has essentially just been a ghost writer venture for the past 30 years, there simply isn't any creative spark in the comic left, but this kind of thing still annoys me.

The comic strip should adapt the model of the 9 lives animated special, so each era has a finite beginning, middle, and end.

The Garfield Christmas special is amazing and doesn't get enough recognition.

I completely concur! I watch that special every year. It was something my Dad and I used to always do together as we ramped up towards Christmas day. Fun times.

I thought the Garfield Show on CN was pretty good. Not as good as Garfield and Friends but still enjoyable.

The Garfield Holiday specials are better than the Peanuts ones, but for whatever reason do not get enough attention. the ghosts in the halloween one are down right scary to a kid.

Agreed. It had it's own charm. I liked the black alley cat Harry. He reminds me of Butch from Tom and Jerry.

Ya it was a well made cartoon. Nothing over the top. The cgi was good too. Nice and colorful.

It got 5 seasons so plenty of people must have liked it. There’s a bunch of episodes on YouTube.
