In the 2012 Show April becomes a borderline marysue, edging into 'teen girl fan character' territory, with a small grocery list of powers that gave her many advantages in combat. Yellow is just a semi consistant on again/off again aspect of April's design, she NEVER wore a trenchcoat. Did this half wit mean jumpsuit maybe? And why is this April's mixed race status at all important? I'm a black person and when I first heard about Rise, the headline said something along the lines of "Herp Derp time to celebrate the first black April!" I was flooded with a sense of second hand embarrassment. This is now how it should be at all. Sure I'll welcome a black April but when you call so much attention to it you're already cutting her out to be a shallow character who only has her 'non whiteness' as the thing that makes her standout. That probably won't be the case, but this is not how you do a first impression. Heck I remember Sari Sumdac from Transformers Animated. There is no promo material saying "Introducing Transformer's first Indian human side kick!" Like seriously...screw off with that. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one side is the totally insincere pandering identity political entertainment industry that wants to call attention to minority characters for browny points. And on the other side are crazy red pillers who reee when a non white character dares to exist in their favorite media. I don't know...it's just really frustrating. |

Anway, ...
Is anyone excited for Mayhem? I can't wait to see what they bring to the table. Last edited by Papenbrook; 06-16-2018 at 11:33 PM. |

Mayhem is one of the only things I strongly dislike on sight. Might be an amusing addition to the show, but that design, eugh.

Excited for the cat thing? Not really. With the little info we have so far, at the moment it just feels like the overdone pet add-on.
You know what I mean... so much marketed to girls anymore is focused on pets. Almost every doll/character has to have a pet now, or so it feels like. This cat thing also looks like a Pokemon or something like that. If they don't put out an April figure/doll with the pet specifically in mind to market to little girls I will be shocked. And mildly shocked if the Turtles don't each end up with a pet add-on too eventually, be it some kind of animal, creature, a version of Metalhead, or whatever. |

What is there exactly to be excited about? It's Barbie and Pokemon fused... together. Another toy to be sold. Hooraaay...
Can the cat talk? Will it be an actual character? Perhaps a living breathing McGuffin? If it is that could be interesting, but 9/10 I'm betting its just a Pokemon kind of thing. So an unnecessary accessory. Last edited by Dejablue; 06-15-2018 at 11:04 PM. |

That's true. But I don't remember her running into the thick of battle with the guys. At least not often. More like she learned martial arts to protect herself.
But still, that makes the above statements about how our special snow-flake mixed race April is the "first" to keep up with the turtles an even more obvious lie. |

It would be fun if Raph was the leader and the buffest but also the smallest turtle. Short jokes eternal.

Is this a prequel or another origin tale? Either way, it makes room for new characters who get their spotlight and then make way for the classic villains (Foot, Baxter, Krang, etc). They actually look pretty cool IMO, my favourites are Hpyno-Potamus and Warren Stone.
I like the idea of BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA as an influence. The Turtles' lives are fantastic, so their world should be fantastic too. And Suriano should cut down on the large heads design, and the massive marketing (though that may be normal these days).

Prequel? No, there are too many differences from anything we've seen before, it can't possibly be a prequel because that would imply it's in continuity with something else.
They might phrase it in a weird way but it's really just another reboot. |

Andy Suriano isn't doing the marketing push, those calls are entirely Viacom/Nick's.

damn, I wish they would release that concept art, would be interesting to see what they changed. Kinda hard to tell from that picture, but Don looks the most changed.

Will the show-runners decide to discard Donnie's tech in the future? I don't see much use for them. |

Yeah, but that might get old.
And what other items would he build? There are only so much items he could build. Last edited by Papenbrook; 06-17-2018 at 04:00 PM. |
