Here are some concept drawings/sketches for the unproduced Killer Ant/Army Ant unpainted hardcopy i posted a picture of at the start of the thread:
It started off here as "Giant Ant" with a Rotten Picnic Theme before taking on an even menancing look as the "Army Ant" Above is an early version before it was refined to the final version here: This Killer Ant/Army Ant was just one unproduced piece that was meant to be made for the 1990/1991 Mega Mutants line of which we only saw Needlenose and Killer Bee finally produced Other unproduced concepts included Exterminator/Undertaker Spider and Buzzard Bomber Here's a color stat i have for the Undertaker Spider: Uncle Gundy p.s. yes i'm the same Uncle Gundy on Rebelscum |

Here's a sketch for the seat on the Killer/Army Ant:
Your can see how the sculptor translated the concept sketch into 3-dimensional form in wax/clay here: Wax/clay sculpts really show off the details best...i wish i had more figural sculpts for the TMNT line Uncle Gundy Last edited by ugundy; 06-04-2013 at 11:57 PM. |

Both look awesome! I can't decide which one is better! Do you know why these weren't made? Or more importantly, how did you get some of this concept art?

The folder come from an employee who worked with a design company that did a lot of work for Playmates in the late eighties/early nineties. i think there were close to a hundred pages in the folder, and it also included concepts for General Traag, Rat King and also instructions for paint operations on the Turtlecycle. Manage to dig out a few sculpts to photograph this morning:
Here's Dimwit Doughboy Rocksteady wax/clay sculpt Here's Super Swimmin' Raph wax/clay sculpt I like how you can see the parting lines drawn in on the Raph sculpt to see where the molds should part. Uncle Gundy |
