Well, the first Wingnut in the 2012 series was a mutant. Now that I think about it I guess he always was an alien. Huh.

He's talking about April's father in Nick who became a mutant bat, Mike jokingly called him Wingnut but he wasn't the "real" Wingnut. The toy also calls him Kirby-bat. The real Wingnut appears in Season 4 as a comic book superhero brought to life.

I love that B&R apparently get a tiny recurring cast of their very own that carries over from the previous mini. Really consolidates them as the IDW TMNT equivalent of Deadpool. And hopefully with Wingnut in the mix, there'll be a shout out to their irrational fear of rabies as seen in City Fall!
