Powerpuff Girls Return In 2016

Quote:
“The Powerpuff Girls” will return to Cartoon Network in 2016, the cabler announced Monday. The reboot will include a new television series and a full licensing program that will roll out across all regions. The show first premiered in 1998 and was created by Craig McCracken.

“The original ‘Powerpuff Girls’ was a franchise phenomenon for Cartoon Network, paving the way for a new generation of innovative storytellers and enthusiastic fans worldwide,” said Rob Sorcher, chief content officer, Cartoon Network. “We are calling these girls back into action based upon an overwhelming demand for sugar, spice and Chemical X.”

The series earned two Emmy awards during its 78-episode run, and spawned a 2003 feature film, a tenth anniversary special, and a re-imagined CG special, “The Powerpuff Girls: Dance Pantsed,” which aired on Cartoon Network in January and featured the voice of Ringo Starr.

“As the original ambassador of ‘girl power,’ The Powerpuff Girls brand continues to resonate with people of all ages and there is tremendous excitement around introducing Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup to a new generation,” said Pete Yoder, vice president of consumer products for North America, Cartoon Network Enterprises. “With proven success and great content plans in place, there’s so much potential that we’re looking forward to explore with our licensing partners in the coming weeks.”

Their heads are so big, and their arms are attached to their heads and not their bodies! That's some weird proportions there

Yeah, and given there were some some liberties taken with the special and how out-of-character some were, I'm not so sure this show will stick to the rules.

Cartoon Network should just make more original shows...I mean, look at what happens when they try to do a reboot/new version...

And then when they actually make an original cartoon...

2016 seems to be the year for new toons. We got 3 to look forward to so far. 2 reboots (PPG and Magic School Bus), and a spin-off of Lion King.

As much as I despised the anniversary special, I can't help but be excited that the Girls are coming back. I just hope they don't ruin them as they did in the special itself and that they stay true to who the Girls were in the original.

The Looney Tunes show was odd in that it would usually have a strong first act, but then drag on. I don’t know why it never seemed to stay funny passed the first commercial break.

Personally, I just want to know when Cartoon Network is going to release the Powerpuff Girls Movie in it's proper widescreen resolution.

I liked the original series back in the day. Was the anime adaptation any good, btw?

What exactly was wrong with the looney tunes show? I thought it was very well done. It wasn't supposed to be like the original looney tunes. it was updated for youth, and it was done perfectly so. And don't try and use it's "cancellation" as reasoning. Because it was one of the top rated shows, the creators only planned for 52 episodes and refused to do more.
