Leo was done first, and then the others were done in a batch to create the portfolio set. So yes, there are differences. The most obvious one to me is the color.

Took me an age to remember where I'd put my set, but yes, what Rose said. They should all be personally signed by the three though.

You might well be right, I'll have a closer look tonight. I bought mine direct from Mirage when they were first sold.

I figured we could re-hash the FMV discussion. This ended today:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORIGINAL-ART...:B:ONA:US:3160

Thoughts on the final bid? I threw in the towel at $190.00. There was a slew of final minute bids. I think it sold above FMV IMHO. Would've been nice in my collection though...

Laird - black biro. Berger - blue biro. Lavigne - black pen by the looks of it. All the signatures are definitely non-identical, so it suggests they were all written.

I was watching that one and was planning to go up to about $70..of course I didn't stand a chance. I think I need to throw in the towel on TMNT OA period with these prices. Way above FMV in my opinion too. But maybe there is a new FMV trend with TMNT art that will stick.

I've said it before, but I think there's a new reality here. $70 is basically free for a piece of vintage artwork from a famous franchise. Even a page that isn't all that killer. I would guess 250 on that page as 'fmv'.

I saw the fact IDW can't re-publish Veitch as a bump in the FMV, semntiment type thing... Was really suprised to see it go at what it did. I think the auction is evidence, again, to support pages will not be going for what they did a few years back. Still hard to say if inflation is playing a part. A few more auctions, before the movie, should show the true nature of the market. After the movie, im expecting moderate inflation regardless how the movie does.

At this point, I really don't think we need to see more auctions. I mean, sale after sale after sale in all venues have continued an uptrend. How high things will stay is uncertain but I think its safe to say that their is a new FMV from where things have been, with about zero probability of dropping back down, esp. in the near term.

Yeah, I was watching it too, It was insane how it jumped so much towards the end. Way more than I was willing to pay for that page. I was thinking in the neighborhood of $150.00 personally. I picked a bad time to get into collecting OA haha.

You're right, though I wish it weren't so. My wallet can't take the new prices so often. I think the only thing that would get the market to come back down would be the industry imploding the way it did in the early 90's. Even then, something like that may not affect OA as much...

I look at it as an "expensive" time to start investing...

Truth be told, every piece I have has been aqquired in the last year. Prior to January 2013, I hadn't picked up a comic book in 20 years...

my gf and i went to a small local con today and she scooped me up some pretty killer prints from some local artists.

this ones raph n usagi (obviously)

Spoiler:

this one she got for herself. he had another variation of this, which was pretty much the same, except it had the nick tmnt logo in the upper right. we choose this for, i guess, aesthetic purposes...? heh.

Spoiler:

also had the raph/usagi one as a button, which i had bought earlier before my gf met up with me. (shes the one who saw he had a print of this). the leo one was also original art, but it didnt have a print. also a toothless button i got for her.

Spoiler:

and this is a sticker from the same guy.

Spoiler:

these were the first purchase of the day. they're from another artist. these were the basic set. he had another set which were printed in metallic, glittery ink, but i didnt really like em. he also had a splinter and a 4 shot of the group bout to munch out on a pizza, but you could only get those if you bought these 3 packs with randomly inserted "chase cards". i didnt try, cuz more than likely i woulda just doubled up a few times on these. i asked if i could just outright buy the splinter n 4 shot and he actually said no. i guess this artist wasn't feelin "the struggle" that bad.
