Can't be the first PD movie, that came out the year before, so unless a time machine was involved...

The second film was about six months away from premiering and no doubt we were hearing things about that one, but can't imagine there was anything big in late November. The only big, if predictable, reveal was Krang, but that wasn't let onto that soon.

Maybe it was a ripple effect of Agent Cooper and Diane doing their Sex Magic Time Travel gimmick in that motel room. Y'know. Dimensional membranes, space/time continuum vortex portals, timeline re-setting itself, yadda yadda. Like that thing with Audrey and the mirror.
